This review evaluating the evaluate the success rate of pulpotomies on permanent teeth using ProRoot MTA, compared to calcium hydroxide or other bioceramic cements included 16 RCTs. The findings suggest better outcomes with MTA than calcium hydroxide. However 10 of the studies were at high risk of bias and the overall certainty of evidence was assessed as low.

Only 3 RCTs reported in 4 papers involving a total of 330 patients were included. Further high quality well reported studies are needed to clarify the evidence for vital pulp therapies.

While most pulpotomy medicaments/techniques, except calcium hydroxide had success rates of 80% or more there is a lack of evidence on the choice of pulpotomy agent.

This review of vital pulp treatment in the management of traumatised human vital permanent teeth diagnosed with complicated crown or crown-root fractures included 14 studies. Whiel the findings suggest good outcomes most of the included studies were observational with substantial heterogeneity in clinical protocols employed, assessment criteria and outcome reporting.
