Articaine-adverse effects in paediatric dental patients

This review of the effects and adverse reactions between articaine and lidocaine in paediatric dental procedures included 8 RCTS. Three of the included studies were at high risk of bias 2 at low risk and 3 at unclear risk. The findings suggested no difference in adverse effects between the two anaesthetics with the certainty of evidence being assessed as moderate.

This review of the most effective method of anaesthesia for mandibular posterior teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis included 22 RCTs. The findings suggest that buccal infiltraion and inferior alveolar nerve block ,Vazirani-Akinosi nerve block and introsseus injections performed better but the evidence was only of low to very low certainty.

Statistically significant differences were seen during needle puncture with topical anaesthetic use in the maxilla and palate but not the mandible.

Irreversible pulpitis: Do larger volumes of local anaesthetic improve success of inferior alveolar nerve blocks?

This review of the efficacy of 1.8 and 3.6 mL of the same anaesthetic solution for inferior alveolar nerve blocks (IANBs) for treating mandibular teeth with irreversible pulpitis included 4 RCTs (280 teeth). The findings show arger volumes of local anaesthetic solutions significantly increase the success rate of IANBs.
